Arab Town Wall

      The only remains of the Arab town wall constructed by Emir Muhammad in the 9th century can be found here.
San Nicolas de los Servitas Church

      This is the oldest church in Madrid from the 15th century. The church was build on an existing Arab Mosque and it still conserves the Mudejar tower from the 12th century.
San Pedro Church

      This is another example of a 15th century church build on the remains of an Arab mosque and does as well conserve the originally Mudejar tower.
The House of Bakery

      This house situated in the central square Plaza Major is from the 15-16th century and has some beautiful wall paintings. It originally housed the Bread Corporation and is today used by the municipality of Madrid.
The Segovia Bridge

      The Segovia Bridge is the oldest bridge of Madrid constructed in 1582 on the orders of Philip II.
The Trinitarias Descalzas Convent

      This convent was designed by the architect Marcos Lopez in the 17th century and is the place where the famous writer Cervantes (author of El Quijote) was buried.
The Santa Cruz Palace

      The Santa Cruz Palace was originally a prison were prisoners sentenced to a dead penalty resided their last days before the public execution in Plaza Major. The prison was build in the 17th century and is today used by the ministry of foreign affairs. 
The Zarzuela Palace

      This palace designed by Juan Gomez in 1634 has since 1963 been the official residence of the Royal Spanish family.
The Monastery of Encarnacion

      Apart from being one of the most beautiful monasteries of Madrid containing paintings and decorations by Ribera and Talavera, this monastery is specially known for containing a shrine with blood of the Saint San Pantaleon.
The Post House

      This house was ordered build by Carlos III in 1766 and contains a mixture of architectural styles in Baroque with Rectangular forms. The house is situated in the central square Puerta del Sol and just in front of the house can be found the 0km sign simplifying the center of Spain. The house is also famous for the clock, which for many years was the official time reference in Spain and is used by millions of Spaniards on the 31st of December to count down the new year.
Cybele Fountain

      This fountain shows the goddess Cybele in a carriage pulled by lions. It was designed by Ventura Rodriguez in the 18th century on orders of Carlos III. Apart from being a great tourist attraction the fountain is used as a celebrating point for thousands of people every time Real Madrid (soccer club) wins an important championship.
Neptune Fountain

      This fountain shows the god of water Neptune on a carriage in a shell form pulled by marine horses. It was like the Cybele fountain designed by Ventura Rodriguez in the 18th century. 
The Royal House La Aduana

      The building was designed by Sabetini in 1769 in a neo-classic style and today is the seat of the Ministry of Finance.
Oratory of the Caballero de Gracia

      This is another typical building designed in a neo-classic style. Inside the oratory can be found important paintings by Velazquez and Zacarias.
Liria Palace

      This is the Madrid residence of the Duke and Duchess of Alba one of the most important noble families in Spain. The palace was designed by Guilbert in 1762 and contains a magnificent art collection with painters like Chagall, Goya, Rembrandt, Ribera, Rubens, Velazguez and Zurbaran.
Royal Palace

      Philip V ordered this palace build in 1738 after a fire in 1734 had totally erected the former Royal Palace. The Italian architect Filippo Juvara was named as designer but after his suddenly death years later Battista Sacchetti took over the project. The palace was build in stone and granite to avoid fires and inside can be found an impressive collection of paintings, sculptures and Royal decorations.
The Gateway of Alcala

      This great gateway was designed by Sabetini in 1769 as a tribute to Carlos III's arrival to Madrid. It contains 5 ports with sculptures made by Michel and Fransisco Gutierrez.
Bank of Spain

      The Bank of Spain was constructed in 1884 and later in 1927 expanded. The Faade of the bank is elaborated in a beautiful Venice Renaissance style.
National Library

      Metro: Colon and Serrano 
 
      The construction of this neo classic library was initiated in 1866. Today it still serves as the national library of Spain.
Madrid Stock Market

      The Stock Market of Madrid was build in the 19th century by Enrique Repulles. Today the neo-classical building still serves as a stock market.
Cathedral Almudena

      The construction of this cathedral was initiated in 1883 but was later suspended and not completely finished until 1992. 
Atocha Train Station

      This is one of the central train stations of Madrid and contains and old part inaugurated by Isabel II in 1851 and modern part from 1992. The old part is build in iron and glass and contains a tropic garden.
Crystal Palace

      This crystal palace from 1887 is located in the center of the Retiro park.
Gaviria Palace

      This palace, which today host one of the trendiest bar-discothques in Madrid, is from 1846. Inside the bar you can still find the classic roof paintings and furniture's from the palace.

      This gateway was ordered build by Napoleon in 1812 during the French occupation of Spain, which only lasted 4 years. 
The Royal Theater

      The construction of the Royal Theater was initiated in 1818 on orders of Isabel II on the old Caos del Peral Theater.

      This building is a typical example of the modernist architecture in Madrid from the 19th century.

      This is an example of architecture from the 20th century in the modern Madrid. The gateway was designed by Philip Johnson and consists of 2 towers inclining towards each other.
The Picasso Tower

      This is another great example of modern architecture from the 20th century in Madrid. The Picasso tower is designed by Japanese architect Minoru Yamasaki.
