Golf in Spain
Spain's geographic diversity and excellent weather makes it ideal for golfing and one of the most popular holiday golfing destinations in the world. There are a great number of quality golf courses throughout the country, the most popular of which have traditionally been in the Costa del Sol (also known as Costa de Golf).
More recently, Murcia has emerged as an up-and-coming golfing destination. The region is perhaps most famous for the Polaris World Nicklaus Golf Trail, which currently consists of four world-class golf courses (with plans for three more in the near future) designed by the famous American golfer Jack Nicklaus.
Take a look at this site Golf and Spa Holidays where you can find Golf Packages all over Spain.
With the expanding popularity of Spain as a golfing destination, numerous courses of great quality have been developed in beautiful locations all throughout the country, including in areas – such as Galicia – that in years past remained untapped by the world of golf.
Today, golfing in Spain offers tremendous variety; from the breathtaking beauty of Spain's northwest, to courses nestled under the 9,000-foot peaks of the Pyrenees and the consistent good weather of the southern coasts and islands.
Andalucia (Costa del Sol)
While there are numerous up-and-coming golf destinations throughout Spain,
Andalucia – with its sunny Costa del Sol – remains the country's most
popular golfing destination. It also has the highest concentration of golf
courses in Europe. Most of the courses in Andalucia are located along the
coastline (Huelva, Cadiz, Marbella, Malaga, Almeria), with the highest
concentration in Marbella.
Over sixty courses in this southern region (more than 30 of which are located in the Costa del Sol) makes Andalucia Europe's golfing mecca and the frequent host of important championships at European and international levels (Ryder Cup was played in Valderama Golf Courses in Cadiz 1997).
Besides the availability of more than 40 championship courses in breathtaking settings, the area's excellent weather offers golfers the added advantage of being able to play year-round in a pleasant climate. The continuing development of new courses also makes this area of continuing interest to golfers of all levels and budgets.
Some of the most popular courses in Andalucia are the Valderrana, Almenara, Torrequebrada and Monte Mayor, which sits spectacularly on the Mediterranean with breathtaking views on Gibraltar and North Africa.
In Estepona in the province of Malaga you can also find the very popular Jason Floyd Golf Academy where young golfers between 12 and 23 years old can improve their golf skills in one of the best golf academies in Spain". Golf programs available from 2 weeks to full academic year programs.

Murcia (Costa Calida)
This coastal region has been the site of the massive golf resorts that have
been developed in the last years, most famously by Polaris World in
association with Nicklaus Design (Jack Nicklaus' golf course design
company).
These golf resort developments feature world-class courses surrounded by apartments and villas that are usually invested in by foreigners either as a vacation or retirement home, or as holiday letting profit opportunities (the vacation rental market in Spain – especially when associated with golf – has remained strong despite the overall comedown of the property market).
Galicia
This small northwestern region holds some of Spain's most beautiful
sceneries. Galicia's contrasting landscapes provide the perfect setting for
breathtaking golf courses like the La Toja golf club on the La Toja island
off the eastern coast of Galicia.
Cataluña
The northwestern region of Cataluña is coming to be known as one of the
finest golfing locations in Europe. Cataluña's Costa Brava won the
International Organization of Golf Tour Operator's award for the world's
best emerging golf destination in 2000.
Cataluña's mild climate also makes it a preferred destination for year-round golfing (unlike Galicia, which suffers from more rainfall). Its ample offerings of history and culture also play their part in drawing golfers from across the world to its pristine courses.
